More than a year ago, I was introduced to hardcore punk with bands such as Dayglo Abortions, Toxic Narcotic, Black Flag, and Aus-Rotten, the latter of the four being my favorite punk band. I was previously into thrash bands like Stormtroopers of Death and M. When I heard crossover, I used to think of songs about milk and songs that jokingly pay tribute to dead musicians. Behind Enemy Lines is a crossover band that tackles political and social issues, rather than go into silly tangents a la thrash metal. When I found a few songs on the internet, I was surprised to hear Dave Trenga, vocalist of Aus-Rotten, belting out his recognizable gritty, screaming voice. This had me hooked immediately. After buying The Global Cannibal from a local record store and listening to it, I became addicted to the sound. There are certain parts of this album that separate BEL from other generic hardcore bands that tend to do the same thing.

All original artwork label logos updated with three different vinyl color options. It spread like wildfire in a pre internet era within a genre that mostly depended on tape trading. It was like a wake up call that opened the eyes and ears to many punks the world over. We feel that this LP is important and therefore should be highly available and priced affordably. All tracks have been re-masted by Jay Matherson at the Jamroom studios. However when we opened the tracks on protools we noticed a few balance issues that required fixing.

Even while bubbling below the surface for nearly their entire existence, Pittsburgh's Aus-Rotten were arguably one of the most important bands of the s in the American punk scene. Not exactly crust per se -- due mostly to the lack of "X," "Anti-" and "Dis-" in their name and vocals that were actually decipherable -- but hard to separate from their anarcho roots and the future crust acts they would go on to influence. As the s came to an end, so too did Aus-Rotten. Initially released in on Tribal War Records, the same label that put out Aus-Rotten's tumultuous discography Not One Single Fucking Hit , Know Your Enemy introduces a band willing to pick up where Aus-Rotten left off, while adducing a new set of progressive ideas.
